Doryoku Ryu
Doryoku Ryu
Our club/style is based on the three staples of Traditional Karate. Kihon, Kata & Kumite. We have been successfully training and teaching Karate in the Southwest of England for the last two years.
The success and growth of the club is due to our professional attitude to Karate training and Karate development.
In Doryoku Ryu our philosophy is simple, we base our Karate on realistic Self-Defence/Protection and the latest fitness techniques, which we believe was the original intention of 19th Century Okinawan Karate (Tode Jutsu) training.
The Karate of the 21stCentury has become fragmented, dogmatic, commercial and a far cry from the founders` original intentions, we refuse to subscribe to this. Our independence allows us to use the best of past and present in our teaching methods, giving our students a high quality up to date training experience.
Over the last 5years there has been much debate regarding the Karate-do, the way of and Karate Jutsu, Practical/Applied. We have chosen to use Jutsu because we promote :
Practical/applied self defence, practical/applied fitness, flexibility & coordination, practical/applied disciple, respect & courtesy and practical/applied personal development. confidence building and character development.

We firmly believe that Karate is a complete self defence system that includes kyusho (vital point striking) tuite (joint manipulation) nage waza (throws) and ne waza (ground fighting).
“Every student should be able to take and benefit from what they want from karate”
